Emily Brontë was an English novelist and poet who lived almost her entire short life on the Yorkshire moors. She published poetry under the pseudonym Ellis Bell and left behind only one novel — Wuthering Heights (1847) — which was poorly received on publication and recognised as a masterpiece only after her death. She died of tuberculosis at thirty, one year after the book appeared.
