Hamilton, Madison & Jay

The Federalist Papers were written by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay under the shared pseudonym "Publius" between October 1787 and May 1788. Hamilton (1755–1804), who conceived the project and wrote the majority of the essays, was Washington's aide-de-camp and became the first Secretary of the Treasury. Madison (1751–1836), who wrote the most celebrated essays on the Constitution's structure, became the fourth President of the United States. Jay (1745–1829), who contributed only five essays due to illness, became the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
