Bram Stoker was an Irish author who spent most of his working life as the personal assistant to the actor Henry Irving. He wrote many novels and short stories, but is remembered almost entirely for Dracula (1897), which drew on Eastern European folklore, contemporary anxieties about sexuality and immigration, and the nascent genre of sensation fiction to create the most enduring monster in Western literature.
